American Architect
AMERICAN ARCHITECT is a short film profiling the legacy of Cass Gilbert, the most influential civic architect of his era (1859–1934) and a leader of the City Beautiful movement--a man responsible for pioneering skyscrapers (the Woolworth Building) and important government buildings (three State Capitols, the US Supreme Court, and dozens of libraries, courthouses, and museums). His work often exemplifies the power of architecture to induce soaring emotions.
Yet Gilbert remains a vaguely-remembered historical figure by ordinary people even though his buildings are experienced by thousands on a daily basis. The film takes an abstract, non-linear approach to Gilbert’s legacy and explores the role of architecture in American civic life.
AMERICAN ARCHITECT is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
A Field Guide to Practical Politics
A new film from veteran political filmmakers Louis Alvarez, Andrew Kolker, and Paul Stekler.
Our title says it all: A FIELD GUIDE TO PRACTICAL POLITICS – a series of stirring true stories about how a focus on small victories and mastery of the game of politics can lead to outsize successes.
Now in production, FIELD GUIDE will be a positive, hands-on way of thinking about politics in a negative world.
