Zoe Laughlin

Materials Engineer

Zoe Laughlin is a British designer, maker, materials engineer, and co-founder of the Institute of Making at University College London. As a leading expert on materials and their cultural and physical significance, her work explores the properties of materials and how they influence design and engineering.


As part of its investigation into creativity and the use of materials, Confluence commissioned Zoe, composer Tod Machover, and glass fabricator Michael Stern to design and build a series of glass cymbals, which were used to perform the composition The Edge of Every Thing.
